Unit 6: Oceanography
In this unit, the students will explore our worlds oceans. The students are tasks with not only understanding the composition of our 5 oceans, but also understanding the topography, subsurface, and identifying the locations of each ocean.
Standard:
S6E3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to recognize the significant role of water in Earth processes.
c. Ask questions to identify and communicate, using graphs and maps, the composition, location, and subsurface topography of the world’s oceans.
d. Analyze and interpret data to create graphic representations of the causes and effects of waves, currents, and tides in Earth’s systems.
The Learning target should be able to master at the end of unit 6 is:
- I can use graphs and maps to identify the features of the ocean floor.
- I can investigate the chemical and physical properties of ocean water.
- I can analyze and interpret data to create a model of the causes and effects of waves, currents, and tides.

We began by dissecting the standards listed above for key vocabulary words students will need to know for this unit.
We then watched the brainpop video the notes on unit 6 Oceanography from the link above as an intro to the unit. We later began the notes over unit 6. The notes sheet is attached below. We closed by completing the brainpop quiz. |
We began by review the standards and questions to review from the day prior. Some classes did not complete the notes the day prior so we completed the notes.
Upon completion of the notes, we completed the two graphs and reviewed them on the board as well as labeled the oceans and locations Questions review at the end of the period |
Jan 11, 2018On this day we completed the notes for Ocean Currents. Students watched the video completed the first side of the notes and labeled the pictures of the movement of currents and location of two specific currents: the California Currents and the Gulf Stream.
In closing, we completed the brain pop quiz. |
